US President Donald Trump stirs national opposition shortly after signing an executive order to ban travel for citizens from seven Muslim majority nations. Acting Attorney General Sally Yates was immediately fired after her decision to block the executive order. According to the Trump Administration, Sally Yates had “betrayed” the US Justice Department after her actions.

The Trump Administration had assigned Dana Boente after the sacking of Yates and would act as Attorney General until further notice. Thomas Homan had been appointed as Acting Director of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Meanwhile, Republican Senator Ted Cruz said the firing of Yates was a “rightful decision” of the US President. He said on Facebook that after former US President Barack Obama’s “lawless” Obama Department of Justice, it was time the acting Attorney General appointed by the past administration be fired by her own actions.

Yates had written a letter to other lawyers stating her position, indicating that it is her responsibility to ensure the legal defense of an executive order “considers all the facts.” She said it is her responsibility for “ensuring the positions we take in court” and make it consistent with her “solemn obligation to seek justice for what is right.
